As leaders in preventive medicine, PAs must stay up to date with the newest clinical guidelines for HIV & STI prevention. HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and doxycycline as bacterial STI post-exposure prophylaxis (Doxy PEP) can curb the increasing incidence of HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. PAs can incorporate these evidence-based and patient-centered approaches into their clinical practice in a multitude of settings.

Speakers

Casey Messer earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies and graduate certificate in Gerontology from the University of Kentucky. After several years in clinical practice, he earned a Doctorate of Health Sciences from A.T. Still University. PA Messer’s research interests include HIV, LGBTQ health equity, and health disparities affecting communities in the Deep South of the United States. He has authored articles in multiple medical journals, including JAAPA. Casey has applied a servant leadership approach to various appointments and advisory roles at the local, state, and national levels. Currently, PA Messer is an HIV Specialist and Health Programs Director for Palm Beach County government in West Palm Beach, FL. Casey prefers he/him/his pronouns.
